with personalized coaching from Oka Skating Academy.
Hey! I’m Mallory.
I’m your skating specialist who brings the energy and is-in-your corner supporting your athlete all the way.
I’m originally from figure skating world, where technique is QUEEN and perfection is the dream. When I was in my twenties, I discovered (through coach training & development opportunities) a whole other level of skating techniques I had not known in my amateur career.
When I started learning these advanced techniques, I knew I had to share this with others. I was obsessed with my newfound knowledge and applied it to my own skating immediately - which advanced my skills more than I could have ever imagined. I thought, if I could do this - imagine what others could achieve if they were exposed to this kind of training early on.
I started applying this skating skill knowledge to my hockey training sessions …and my passion for the sport only grew. Flash forward to 2020, Oka Skating Academy was born with the mission to bring professional power & edge training to all athletes to elevate their game. I believe every athlete deserves the opportunity to succeed in the sport they love. To start…skating skills must be proficient. I want athletes to out skate the game, not the other way around.

The athletes vastly improve it seems almost immediately when working with her…
“Mallory has a knack for understanding and connecting with the kids/athletes. She is always encouraging them to participate during their lessons, explaining, and demonstrating technique in a way that is understood by the kids/athletes. The athletes/kids vastly improve it seems almost immediately when working with her.”
Eric, Athlete’s Dad
His stride, agilty, and edge work is amazing and on the same level as many players much older than him.
“My son has made great improvements in his skating abilities since he started with OKA. Even though he is only a Pee Wee, his stride, agility, and edge work is amazing and on the same level as many players much older than him. These improvements have led him to build confidence which has translated into him becoming a much greater hockey player.
Athlete’s Dad

Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE ARE SESSIONS AT?
All ice sessions are at the Al Wentz Arena in Rugby, ND.
WHO WILL MY CHILD BE IN A GROUP WITH?
Groups are chosen by the coach and based on skill and age, which is gathered in the registration form. The goal is to have the group athletes very similar in skating skills.
COULD MY CHILD’S GROUP EVER CHANGE?
Yes, it is a possibility. If the coach finds an athlete would be better suited in a different group, the coach will communicate this to the parent. At the end of the day, sessions flow best when athletes are of similar skating skills. Moving an athlete to a new group is only for the benefit of that athlete!
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?
Athletes must wear a helmet and bring their stick. We highly recommend and encourage athletes to be in FULL GEAR. For goalies, please communicate with your coach as we sometimes have goalies go without their pads (pending athletes’ needs).
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T MAKE A LESSON ONE WEEK?
Please let the coach know ahead of time. Small group lessons are generally not rescheduled due to numerous families invested in that training session.
CAN MY ATHLETE SKATE BEFORE/AFTER THEIR SESSION? WHAT ABOUT OTHER OKA ICE TIMES?
YES! We highly encourage athletes to USE OUR ICE! At minimum, we want to see athletes skating 15 minutes prior to their lesson and 15 minutes after their lesson. All enrolled athletes can use our ice for skill practice, regardless if their lesson with coach is that day or not.
